After having have have solved my virus problem, another problem came up. My laptop started to freeze at times and to restart at very random times. I thought the freezing might be bec. of my applications that automatically starts whenever I boot the computer but I have no idea as to why my laptop restarts (and gets stuck at the loading page) at very random times.

I do not have another virus, do I?

Help me, I guess? :'D

You do may have viruses or it's remnants in you system. Make sure your system is clean first. Post a log of your system by carefully reading the instructions by referring the following link.

Hopefully one of the BC malware helper will respond and give you further instructions.

Random reboots and system freezes...occur for any number of reasons, malware is not the root cause of every computer problem.

Since you just had a MRL forum topic dealing with an infection...closed with the "all clear", I see no reason to suspect that malware is your problem.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log

  List Installed Programs

List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link.  Do not copy/paste data from the report.

<<149GB Hitachi HTS542516K9SA00 (SATA): 57 °C>>

That temperature would have me worried.  My limited experience is that a drive is good as long as the temp is 50 Celsius or less.  When I've had drives which ran higher than that...they all seem to have developed problems.

Your CPU temperature is fine, max is 100 Celsius, yours is 74Celsius.

My guess is that your laptop is overheating, causing the restarts...but that's an uneducated guess :).

Moving topic to Internal Hardware where the more knowledgeable can advise re possibility of overheating and overcoming such.

Status report, I guess :'D

Still having this annoying random freezing. I have deleted a lot of programs/files bec. I thought it might be because I have too much now.

T 3T

I have never had this much problem on freezing before. Also, it still freezes/restarts even after I attached the cooling pad. It does not do much help with it blowing a very weak wind :'D

Why does this laptop heats up fast?!

It's not much of a problem to me right now, since its my vacation. But once school starts once again it would be a veryyy big problem :'D What if it decides to freeze while I'm on  the middle of a project?!

You try the Computer on in Safe mode if in safe mode your computer run correctly then you disables the all application on start up

Disable method of startup application got to start and click the run and type the msconfig after open new window you click the startup tab disable all after restart you see your problem resolved..

Ah but then I would not know which file/program it is is the exact problem.

...Does that mean I'd have to turn them off one by one and see if it fixes the problem? :'D

If I want to reformat my laptop, on what forum should I ask for help?

Hi, You Said

Also, it still freezes/restarts even after I attached the cooling pad. It does not do much help with it blowing a very weak wind :'D

Why does this laptop heats up fast?!

Do you mean that the cooling fan in the laptop is blowing a weak wind? How does that air coming out feel for temperature?

It could be that the Heatsink needs cleaning. For example when the CPU temperature rises the CPU speed may drop to help with the overheating.

I would not format and re-install just Yet, You may have a hardware problem.

What is the make and model? Is is some model of Acer? (From Speccy) it appears that the system temperature is running high.

This is a link to advice from HP that can be of help on most laptops. Reducing Heat Inside the PC

The sound of the fan running all the time may the first clue that your PC is not running as efficiently as possible and that you may have a problem with accumulated dust clogging air vents.

Good Luck

Roger

Ah, no!

It's an.. external fan I guess. It's meant to help cool down the laptop. It's attached to my laptop via USB

The air coming out of the laptop feels hot. I've noticed that this laptop heats up a lot faster than my laptop (an HP laptop, forgot what model).

I have an Acer Aspire 2920z.

I thought that maybe reformatting it might solve the problem bec. a long time ago (well maybe 5 years or so) this laptop also had the same freezing problems and only reformatting it solved the problem.

In normal usage the air should not be coming out hot.

I suspect that the heat sink is clogged.

Your service manual is here http://www.intellcity.ru/content-2/service-manual-notebook-Acer/service-manual-Acer-Aspire-2920-2920z-2420.pdf

If You decide to celan the heatsink.

From Page 65
Removing the CPU and VGA Heatsink Module
1.
See “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 56.
2.

See “Removing the Lower Cover” on page 57

Then Page 66 & 67 You will need some Thermal compound to replace the old compound as it isn't reusable and some Isopropyl alcohol to clean the surfaces first.

Alternatively withe the lower cover removed you could try using canned air blowing from the outside to clean the heatsink.

If you do remove the heatsink assembly. Be very careful. The heatsink  fan connector is delicate, Do not pull on the wires.

That is what I would do first as after a few years of use the heatsinks get clogged and cause problems.

Good Luck

Roger

Try blowing out the dust with the lower cover off

First Blow into where the air comes out then blow into the fan. You should work back and forth that way. See if that helps.

Be Careful, Laptops are a lot more delicate than a desktop. Be Sure not to spin the cooling fan real fast.

Good Luck

Roger
