On my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop I've had several recent, odd problems with the audio/video.

The video or audio will suddenly freeze in a loop of the last sound (imagine the last sound was a 'g' sound and it going 'ggggggggggggggggggg') for a few seconds.  The video will also usually freeze and then it 'catches up' and starts working again.

So far I've done multiple spyware/malware/virus checks with various software, including Spybot, Malwarebytes, AVG, Microsoft Security Scanner and Kaspersky rescue disk.  I did find the remnants of a hijacker I'd found earlier but the scanner cleaned it up.

I also have updated any and all audio and video drivers I could think of, updated browsers, updated my video and audio players and updated Adobe Flash Player.  None of these seem to work and I was so sure with Flash since the error occurs both for online videos as well as DVDs.

This error is very annoying and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.  I sure don't want to do a factory restore on this thing again.

Were the graphics driver downloaded from the manufacturer's website?

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

 Checkmark the following checkboxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, copy it and paste it in your next post.

When you updated the Intel driver did you uninstall the old driver first?

The CodeIntegrity errors all refer to AVG.  I would suggest using AVG Remover to uninstall it and download Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials.

I would also suggest running sfc /scannow and chkdsk c:/r

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Click on the Start orb startorb_zps06e1f985.png, the type in cmd in the Search programs and files.

cmd will appear in Programs above, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.

A page similar to the one below will open.

Screenshot2.jpg

Type in sfc /scannow and then press Enter to start the scan.

Run Chkdsk from Command Prompt

Click on the Start orb startorb_zps06e1f985.png , type in cmd in the Search programs and files box.  When cmd is seen in Programs right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

You will see a screen similar to the one below.

Screenshot2.jpg

Type in chkdsk c:/r then press Enter.

You will receieve the message "CHKDSK cannot be run because it is in use by another process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?  <Y/N>".

Type in Y and press Enter.

Restart your computer to start the scan.

This will take a while to run, please be patient and allow it to complete the scan.

After you have done these please run the MiniToolBox again and post the results in your next post.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

I don't recall whether I uninstalled the previous driver.  I don't think so, though.

Removed AVG and replaced with Avast.  Did sfc /scannow and chkdsk.

I apologize for butting in.  I noticed that in your Speccy list shows the update that has been a problem for various Win 7 systems.

4/11/2013 Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB2823324)

The April 2013 updates caused my old Dell e1505 Vista Home 32 bit laptop with AVG, to fail to cold boot after the updates. Also after the updates the audio was erratic and often missing.  When windows could not cold boot, windows suggested that I run FIX (which I did ).  It then did a restore that removed all the April updates. This corrected the failure to boot and the audio problems.  Uninstalling the KB2823324 patch or all the April patches may help or not, and can always be reinstalled if no help.  Much easier than a factory restore.  Good luck,

Good catch. :thumbup2:   I removed this from my wife's and my own computer after reading Quietman7's post in the Breaking Virus &Security News forum.

This can be deleted in the Uninstall Program portion of the Control Panel.  When you open the Control Panel there should be a option View Installed Updates.  Scroll down to the (KB2823324) update and delete it.

I didn't think about uninstalling an update for some reason, even though that's been a problem in the past.

Uninstalled it.  Let's see if that helps.

And in case I forget to say it: Thank all of you who have helped me!

There are still bits of AVG left after uninstalling it, I would suggest reinstalling it and then use this tool to uninstall it as it should remove all aspects of AVG.  The reason that you need to reinstall AVG is because the uninstall tool may not work without the program being installed.  Uninstall this while off line.

I would also suggest downloading new drivers for your Intel pro/1000, go to this site and use their automatic detection tool to find the driver.

By installing the April 2013 updates one by one, I identified KB2808735 as the update that caused problems with my Dell Vista laptop as noted above.

nobytes, I don't see how that security update could be causing it.  According to the uninstaller, it was installed only a couple of weeks ago and I've been having problems for much longer than that.

The AVG uninstaller link you gave me was to 2012 and didn't work.  I tried one for 2013 but it also didn't work for some reason.  I had to uninstall it via the control panel.

I'll uninstall the other update mentioned but I doubt it has much to do with it.

The only update that has been an issue recently was the KB2823324 which was pulled by Microsoft.  This update only affected computers with a specific third party software.

Quietman7 explained this in the Breaking Virus & Security News forum.
