This is what I have...

Computer:    HP dc7800 Small Form Factor

 http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06a/12454-12454-64287-3328898-3328898-3459241.html?dnr=1

Per my BIOS:     These are Intel Core Duo CPU's

     E6550@2.33Ghz x2

       980mb of RAM

Not sure what the E6550, 2.33Ghz really is..  OBVIOUSLY old, but is it any good?

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/system-requirements

I am not a computer expert but I think they meet the 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster requirement that is required for either Windows 7 or Windows 8. ???

Also why are the Win 7 and Win 8 requirements essentially the same?

I am running Win XP sp3 32 bit so am limited to the 4gb ram limitation and need to resolve that, well I would like to resolve that..  but then I got to thinking instead of looking for XP 64 bit, WHY NOT just go to Win 7 or Win 8, right????

Let me know what yall think.. Appreciate ANY and all INFO!

You just need to upgrade to 4GB of ram and Windows 7 or 8 should flawlessly work.

However...

Should I go 32bit or 64bit?

Any input, suggestions, and feedback greatly needed/appreciated!

64bit would be the better choice as it would allow you to use 4GB or more ram in the future when you decide to add more ram in.

Are you running Windows XP now? If so, get the Windows upgrade adviser from Microsoft to ensure that Windows 8 will run. There is still a chance that your machine does not support "NX" and thus would not run Windows 8. The Core2Duo era was the era that finally pushed, but did not mandate that requirement.
