Hello everybody. I have a desktop and monitor running Windows XP Professional and recently I've been having troubles with it. When I start up the computer it pops up a black screen with a white underscore flashing and I can't enter anything. It only allows me to go into f2 and f12 to see my BIOS settings but when I repeat f8 to go into safe mode but it just makes a beeping sound and safe mode doesn't pop up. Does anybody know what I should do?

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

Also, do you have an XP cd?

It' actually a friend's computer I'm trying to help with. He thinks it was a virus and it just kept getting worse until this happened. I don't think he has the XP cd to reimage. Any suggestions?

If this was caused by a virus you should post in the Am I Infected forum on this site.
