I have an Asus laptop that runs Windows 7 and am experiencing a problem, well actually it's twofold -

In Power Options, I have it set so that my computer should turn off the display after 1 minute of inactivity when it is plugged in, but it never turns off.

This evening, while I had it plugged in and was using it, a battery symbol appeared momentarily on the screen and then my screen dimmed. I don't think it's ever supposed to dim while you're using it.

Can someone tell me what the problem might be and suggest a solution?

Please try this first. Make sure you are using the recommended or maximum power settings. Set 'dim the display' on both 'battery' and 'plugged in' to 2 minutes. Under the 'turn off the display' for both 'battery' and 'plugged in', set it to 3 minutes - Save changes. If you use any external mouse, please remove it first then check the difference.
