Has anyone had this problem and found a solution...I have a dell inspiron 1545 , vista o.s., with the original ac adapter. I replaced the battery with a less expensive one as the computer told me my battery life was ending. It worked great for a while, bet then it starts this thing about battery plugged in and not charging. It will go down to 0% charge and every once in a while it will fully charge, but not very often. What causes this. My adapter cord has a chip in the plastic edge so its easy to deplete the charge which really sucks when you bump it during something important and the info gets lost by power-loss. My question is why does it only charge every great once in a while and not all the time like it should.

Hi wondergem :)

If it's still under warranty, please exercise the right to return the item. That is why all branded laptops are strict on battery purchase replacement policies as they maintain the quality and safety standards. See also the Dell FAQ official site for laptop battery
