Hello:

I'm looking for some assistance. I have a Lenovo 7268 ThinkCentre M58e desktop running Windows XP Professional SP3; 2.7gig Intel Pentium Dual-Core with 2 MB memory.

My dilemna: I had Avast virus protection on my computer. After I completed a system restore, Avast would not work and I could not perform a proper update, so I deleted it and installed Microsoft Essentials.

Microsoft Essentials found Java/VE-2013-422 exploit - quaranteened and I removed it. However, after this process I noticed that the Windows Search function does not operate (does not display any of the selections options down the left side of the window) and System Restore does not open at all.

I removed Java with Revo Unistaller and loaded fresh Java install but still having same issues with the search and system restore. (Additionally, I noticed that help options in HR Block Tax program fails - and I think is related to the bad Java?)

Any help is appreciated because my system is not operating the same as before. Please advise if you need additional details. Thanks in advance!

Broni,

All in all, okay. But no improvement on the Windows Search issue and System Restore still does not show up when I click on it. Any additional help is appreciated. Thanks!

Download Windows Repair (All in One) from this site

Install the program then run it.

NOTE 1. In Windows Vista, 7 and 8 right click on the program, click "Run As Administrator".
NOTE 2. Disable your antivirus program before running Windows Repair.

Go to Step 2 and allow it to run CheckDisk by clicking on Do It button:

p22002979.gif

Once that is done then go to Step 3 and allow it to run System File Check by clicking on Do It button:

p22002980.gif

Go to Step 4 and under "System Restore" click on Create button:

p22002982.gif

Go to Start Repairs tab and click Start button.

Leave all checkmarks as they're.
NOTE for Windows 8 users. Reset Registry Permissions is NOT checked by design.

Click on Start button.

Post Windows Repair log (_windows_repair_log.txt) which is located in the following folder:
64-bit systems - C:\Program Files (x86)\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs
32-bit systems - C:\Program Files\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs
