I have an HP Pavilion P7-1003w.

At the shop, it works great.

At the owner's house, it goes to a black screen, and will not wake up with the keyboard or the mouse.

We are both frustrated, the owner, and the tech (me).

I have changed power options settings, telling it never to go to sleep.

I have installed a new video card.

I have checked all the hardware.

I have loaded all the drivers from the HP web site with the exception of the onboard video.

To get it back on, I have to power it off, and then restart.

The owner is unhappy with it, and I will have to take it back and refund her purchase if I cannot

come up with a permanent fix for this black screen problem.

If you have any ideas, please share them with me.  Thank you!

Sparky

The HP desktop model came with only a 250 watts power supply. Since you have mentioned of adding a dedicated card, its probably that is one of the causes. All drivers should be up to date versions. IMO, sleep or hibernation on desktops is a commercial flaw and inexact science. It is a make or break function which is not or should not be presented to users/customers as a power saving feature for economical convenience and advantage. The power saving feature are more likely an advantage for laptops running on battery but does not mean its flawless. The duration access of stored data from memory when coming out of sleep mode or hibernation compared to booting up that particular computer model is almost the same.

I installed a new power supply today on the recommendation of BC Advisor, jhayz.

I replaced the stock Bestec 250 watt

with a Logisys Black Beauty 480 watt.

This simple modification took care of all problems.

Owner and Tech are now extremely happy.

I cannot thank you enough.
