I have been having an issue on my new computer for a few weeks now.

Whenever I try to type google.com into the Omnibox of Chrome I am taken to a Wikimedia Foundation page that says Unconfigured Domain. It doesn't happen all the time, but has been increasing in frequency.

I can go to images.google.com, then click Search and that will take to to Google.com but I cannot get there manually.

The issue is not present with Internet Explorer.

Here is a posting of DDS.txt as requested:

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Search and delete the AdWare, PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) installed on your computer.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete tab follow the prompts.
  • A log file will automatically open after the scan has finished.

  • You can find the log file at C:\AdwCleaner[Rn].txt (n is a number).

After running both programs, when I type in google.com to the Chrome Omnibox it still sends me to an Unconfigured Wikimedia Domain.

Click the 3 Horizontal bars on the top right side of Chrome.
Select Settings.
Under Open a specific page or set of pages. Look at the Set pages, if you find any reference to a site you did not set remove it.
===

If that fails to solve the issue try this.

Click the StartBtn.gif button. In the Search box, type Command Prompt, and then, in the list of results, double-click Command Prompt.

at the cursor type:
ipconfig /flushdns <-- (A space between g and / is needed)

repeat with
ipconfig /renew

Then hit Enter, type Exit, hit the Enter key.

You may need to run CMD - Command Prompt on Vista - Windows 7/8 with Elevated Privilege
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/02/17/how-to-open-elevated-command-prompt-with-administrator-privileges-in-windows-vista/

Keep me posted.

No dice. Still having the same issue.

Could it just be an issue that Chrome has with Windows 8?

Remove Chrome using the Add/Remove Programs.

Restart the computer and reinstall it.
