I broke a cardinal rule without realizing it...started my morning with the lovely moneypak virus.  Locked me out when I was checking auctions in WoW...found bleeping computer after malwarebytes and avg did not solve my problem...found a thread that looked exactly like my problem followed steps and was all clean...continued to follow thread and next was combofix...everything was going so well I followed that step too...now I cannot open anything on my computer...most common message is "no such interface supported"

I know I am an idiot but if there is any chance I can be saved I promise never to run Combofix again without being instructed to do so.  I hope someone can help!

Have not located notepad version of combofix log report.  Cannot get it to scan because of current locked out situation on my laptop. If anyone can advise further based on the info so far I would appreciate.

Thanks

I think this all of the other information I can come up with.  This is the thread I was following when I started this fiasco.  In no way shape or form to I blame the thread.  It was all going so well up until I took the combofix step.  Just want to give my situation some frame of reference:

I have another log from AdwCleaner that I ran in between SecurityCheck and RogueKiller

I now have every log in notepad format posted here other than the actual combofix report which I have a hard copy of but cannot locate anywhere on my laptop hard drive.

Of course I am loathe to run Combofix again to get a postable report.  THere is no way I would do that without someone advisiing that they need me to do it because the have to see that report.  Let me know any thoughts.

Thanks

Here is my ComboFix log.  I ended up just doing another scan.  The same as when it ran earlier today.  I would like to uninstal and move on with my life if things look OK.  Please let me know.

Thanks,

Hello, Welcome to BleepingComputer.
I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

If you can please print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.
===
Please download and run this DDS Scanning Tool. Nothing will be deleted. It will just give me some additional information about your system.

Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links, if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.

1: DDS.scr (Not recommended if you use Chrome to download this .scr file. Use the other options.)
2: DDS.pif
3: DDS.COM

Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
Notepad will open with the results.
Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.

dds_scr.gif

Please just paste the contents of the DDS.txt log in your next post. DO NOT attach the log.
===

Third party programs if not up to date can be the cause of infiltration an infection.

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
===

Search and delete the AdWare, PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) installed on your computer.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete tab follow the prompts.
  • A log file will automatically open after the scan has finished.
  • Please post the content of that log file with your next answer.
  • You can find the log file at C:\AdwCleaner[Rn].txt (n is a number).
Please paste the logs in your next reply, DO NOT ATTACH THEM
Let me know what problem persists.

Ran Security Check-When I first double clicked I got a pop-up error along the lines of something must be type "object"...I thought with the issues on my computer Security check would not run so I clicked OK on the error and then Security check ran anyway.  Sorry I did not  copy the error pop up more exactly.

This is the log that Security Check produced

Persisting Problems:

1) I can now open Control Panel (that is a win...previously unable).  However, no option to install/uninstall programs.  I was only looking in here because ever since running ComboFix every time I start up computer I get a message from AVG that license number does not match and I was figuring I was just going to have to uninstall and reinstall AVG (I only run the free version)

2) I can open Windows explorer from deskto (another win).  However, no librairies (ie documents, pictures etc.

3) I now have a folder on my desktop named David.  Pics docs etc in this folder.  I can open individual folders and see docs but cannot open any MS Office docs.  Sample pop up error for Excel... Microsoft Office Excel stdole32,tlb...click OK and get this pop up...Microsoft Office Excel...The workbook cannot be opened or repaired by Microsoft Excel because it is corrupted...

4) Cannot open Internet explorer from Desktop or All programs

5)  Can open Microsoft Outlook but then get error message... The file NormalEmail cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents...get options for click OK or details... no error details

Since I do not spend a lot of time in forums I do not know if this fits protocol but I am working on all of this in my office.  I do have an 800 # if it is easier to talk through these issues.  If it is better to have everything in writing I understand.

If you would like to call the I would be happy to give you the number outside of this thread.

thisisujrt.gif Please download

  • Please close your security software to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or 7, right-mouse click it and select Run as administrator.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete, depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your Desktop and will automatically open.
  • Please post the contents of JRT.txt into your reply.
  • This tool will clean all these empty {...} folders found in c:\users\david\appdata\local\

If that fails to restore some of the Office or Excell files try this on only one excell file for now.

The laptop is actually with my IT guy right now and he is who ran this scan.

I have not spoken to him but in his email he mentioned after the scan nothing had really changed.  We are most likely going to "back up all my data, restore from backup drive and do a restore of any files that were changed since your last backup so we shouldn’t lose any data."

That is from him to me.  He has been the head of IT for a large hospitality company in the Southwest for going on 20 years and also a friend so I am going to let him give it a go and see how it turns out.  I will shoot you an update.

I appreciate all of your help on this.  He was out of town and I was in a real mess.  You got the machine back a long way without him.  Now I will see if he can work his magic for me.  He has certainly bailed me out in the past.  Thanks again for all of your help.  I will give you an update when I have one.  Have a great night!
