I am running Linux Lite OS and i'm on the verge of switching over to Linux full time. I have also been thinking of trying out a non graphical web browser such as Dillo. Although i wouldn't be pestered with graphical ads would Dillo be a safer way to surf the Internet in general?

dillo is fine but not a safer way to browse the net.  but cool in its own right. dont think a non graphical web browser is any safe. changed to linux when i was over 50 just deleted windows and went to linux. i would recommend that you keep whatever windows version you have and installed linux on a partitioned hard drive. have fun but just remember that linux cant run everything but can run 98%. enjoy~!

Assuming that you are using the Firefox Browser....

You should get Adblock Plus and NoScript add-ons that will block all those pesky ads and

protect you from several types of malware including driveby installs of malware from just visiting a site.

They both work great in Windows and Linux. Add-ons for Firefox

You should also block the tracking/ ad cookies..Third Party Cookies....from installing on your computer.

In Firefox. I also only allow session only cookies for all sites. That ends the tracking done by sites you allow to

set cookies.
