Hello all:

I find that when I start my machine that there sometimes is a pop-up saying there is already an instance of  "whatever.exe" running. I go into my startup folders, as well as the startup sections of  CCleaner and msconfig, and find no double entries.

The programs in question I believe are portable, so I just copied a link into the "all users" startup folder, but even upon removal I still ge the message. Is there something I'm missing?

Seems like a simple issue, but I'm sick of being told a program is already running that I had personally set.

Any ideas or suggestions are very much appreciated!

Kind Regards,
Daniel in Tulsa

What is "whatever.exe"?

Also, download and run Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel. Uncheck any dupes

When I say "whetever.exe" I mean any exe that runs at coputer start that I have placed in the Startup folder and have it set in the prograph's settings to start with Windows.

So ALL startup entries try to run twice?

Okay, this is like pulling teeth. WHAT are the startup items in question?

I'm sorry that it seems like pulling teeth, but it's just a couple of programs I have set to start on startup. I'll note the programs when I next restart, but I won't restart just for the purpose of finding out, simply because this is a Franken-PC and the less you restart it, the better. I will report back once I find out.

Please understand I'm not trying to be an ass, it's just that my PC is getting a bit old, and I don't want to put it through anything unneccessary.

Did you check for duplicate entries with Startup Control Panel?

BC Advisor: I decided to go ahead and apply Windows Updates so I'd be forced to restart. Suddenly there were no dupes trying to start. And yes, prior to posting here I had checked for dupe entries in both msconfig, but I mainly use CCleaner for managing startup stuff. So after updates installed and all, everything was smooth as silk. Must have been "one of those things" that happens every so often.

Thanks for your help!
