Ok so a while ago I bought what I thought was a legitimate copy of Win7 Ultimate from ebay. Months later I find (of course) that it was fake. I followed Microsoft's instructions to get genuine and they sent me out a "Get Genuine Online Kit" which I installed yesterday.

Since then all Ive really done on my pc was try to install League of Legends. It wouldn't run - it said a .dll was missing, so I went onto Google and downloaded it. I later found out that my missing dll was a DirectX issue and so I suspect the dll was a trojan (or something - Im not really all that tech-savvy).

I noticed something was wrong when my (funilly enough) my facebook notification buttons were missing and then my computer bluescreened when I tried to install Norton.

I ran a quick scan with Microsoft Security Essentials - nothing - and then ran a full system scan. The full scan found HackTool:Win32/Keygen. It tried to remove it but got to about 75% and just stopped. Then it tried to quarantine it - it said it worked but when I reboot and scan again, it's active again.

I have unplugged my computer from the internet - but have left the modem on, though, because my housemates are still using the net - and am using my phone to write this (not sure how careful I should be haha).

Any help would be VERY much appreciated!

Do you still have the pop up? What is the location of the file?

Malwarebytes

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. If you already have it installed launch the program and update the database.

  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet and double-click on the it to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings except to uncheck any offer for a free Pro trial version
  • Malwarebytes will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button and continue.
  • Under the Scanner tab, make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box, then click the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked and then click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows the database version and your operating system.
  • Exit Malwarebytes when done.

Note: If Malwarebytes encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally will prevent Malwarebytes from removing all the malware.

===================================================

AdwCleaner by Xplode - Search for Adware
  • Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Security softwares may flag it as malicious. This is a false positive and can be ignored.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe, select OK, then Run
  • Click on DELETE
  • Click YES if you receive a warning for reboot
  • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished
  • Copy and paste the contents in your reply
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt as well

So my computer has stopped booting up. It gets to "Verifying DMI Pool Data" and then just stops.

I wasn't able to get to my computer for a couple of days. My housemate said they installed Tversity so we could watch a movie, but it wasn't showing up on the Playstation. When I went to check the computer it was repeatedly booting.

You see, for some reason when my external hdd is plugged in my computer gets about half way through a boot and restarts... no idea why.

When I unplugged it, I got the issue I mentioned in my last post.

There was also an incident just before all of this where there was a pop-up from Microsoft Security Essentials just after boot about having identified a threat but I accidentally clicked cancel instead of clean pc.

I am pressing F8 and nothing is happening, it keeps going straight through to the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" issue. I have held the key down and pressed it multiple times rapidly just to make sure the computer would respond. It starts beeping at me if I press the button too many times so it clearly knows Im pushing a button, but seems to completely disregard the button press.

*computer (sorry, still using my phone to talk)

Im not sure if this is of any help but I had my operating system installed on an SSD and all of my data on a separate hard drive. In System Recovery Options it says "Operating system: Unknown on (Unknown) Local Disk". If I try to install windows all over again only my HDD shows up, and so it seems I can't format the SSD either.
