I have a new dell laptop with win 8 ( i will never buy another dell ) I am having several issues Dell tech support was of no help. My problems are as follows: Sluggish start, slow in changing programs, freezing up, poor battery life. My web broswer home page has been changed to globa search I also fear that I have been hacked. Also I have mc afee  and windows defender which won't run or won't update and if someone could recommend to me a security software ( hopefully free ) I could use instead of mcafee. I think that is all of my issues but i know something is wrong and I can't get into safe mode like on win 7 and malwarebytes don't work on win 8 so if you could recommend some software i can use for detection I would be most grateful.

Welcome with these multiple issues...

I think we should get a deeper look. Please follow this Preparation Guide and post in a new topic.
Let me know if all went well.
