I have a perflib_perfdata virus/malware and cannot remove it.  I use Security essentials and Adaware.  I now cannot update or remove security essentials because it tells me that I am missing a file c:\1a1bbecd4c9d46bd3f97b1\x86\.  Adaware caught a few malwares and malware bytes caught a few more but i believe they are being generated through perflib_perfdata.  I tried combo fix with the latest version but no luck there.  I found a locked file in windows/temp and was able to delete it with unlocker but a new one keeps coming back.  Here is my hijack this log:

I have a perflib_perfdata virus/malware and cannot remove it.

Perflib_Perfdata_xxx.dat is not a virus. These files are created by performance monitoring programs, including Windows. Please stop trying to remove the files.

Are you experiencing any problems with the system at the moment?

Ok, my bad.  I do have issues with my security essentials.  I have a Windows update for this program but everytime I try to install it I get an error message telling me that I am missing a file to complete the installation.  I tried to delete essentials for a re-install but i cannot delete it because again due to a missing file.  I also have Ad-aware as a backup virus protection so I am not running "barefoot" but I cannot do anything with essentials.

It's tricky, MSE. Are you able to uninstall the program using Add/Remove?

Did you try Unlocker?

Download and install Unlocker

Navigate to the file/folder you need to remove

Then right click and select Unlocker. If this deletes it then you are done. If it is locked then a list will apppear. Just click Unlock All.

I think you need to go onto the Microsoft forum and get some advice about this. You don't have any malware so we will wrap it up here though
