My computer has been getting frequent freezes while browsing using Chrome.

I usually have 3-5 open tabs.

I have seen this in the gray status bar at the bottom of Chrome

"waiting for ib.adnxs.com"

I have not seen a  pop-up for this though. Just freezes and maybe a browser white screen (not  the computer).

So what should my next steps be?

  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button and continue.
  • Under the Scanner tab, make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.

My computer acts much better.
I did however just see this "waiting for lax1.ib.adnxs.com"

There was no delay though. Is adnxs.com spreading into legitamite(?) advertisements.

Let me know if I should run through some step again.

Also, I have had eset nod in the past but have used MSE on this set up. Is MSE as reliable as any of the anti-virus programs?
Should I run the free eset scanner on a regular basis?

I removed chrome and reinstalled. Things looked good, I was not seeing "waiting for lax1.ib.adnxs.com" or experiencing any slowdowns.

Tonight, I started getting some slow loadings and saw "waiting for lax1.ib.adnxs.com".
So, thinking back, today I reinstalled this Chrome app called "lightshot".
I've used it for 2 years I suppose. It allows me to draw a box around what I want a screenshot of, and save as a jpg.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lightshot-screenshot-tool/mbniclmhobmnbdlbpiphghaielnnpgdp

Is it possible this extension has been corrupted and caused the problem (seems kind of likely to me)

Remove the extension and test your browser. You may need to find an alternate one if lightshot was causing the redirect.

Download Hosts fixit from here

Hosts fixit

Run it,restart the PC

Now launch mini toolbox and checkmark hosts contents alone and post the new log

I removed Lightshot and then saw waiting for lax1.ib.adnxs.com

I ran Hosts Fixit and rebooted.

I reinstalled Chrome (I did delete browsing data).

Everything was fine. However, Google just crashed(?) it was strange, I didn't know it crashed. I clicked a legit link (from Google Alerts to a news story) in my outlook. It informed me Google had crash did I want to open. It did not offer to reload the prior pages. And disturbingly it showed this at the bottom

Chrome has been auto-updated with bettar spell chek!

Try the Ask Google for suggestions in the right click menu of any text area.

bettar spell chek [sic]

I did not click that link.
I have a screen shot, but apparently I have to store it somewhere to post and image here?

Edited to add: maybe it is Google??? http://mashable.com/2013/03/29/chrome-spell-check/
