Several issues are now plauging my laptop which runs on xp. Symptoms include some, but not all shortcuts showing up as LNK files, any exe files associated with repairing exe files showing up as LNK files, some folders showing up as LNK files, windows firewall settings will not open due to unidentified problems,add/remove programs will open, but won't populate, all programs list on start menu will not populate, administrative tools wont open, task manager won't open, and malwarebytes vbAccelerator sgrid error '0'.

None of my exe files would work until I went to tools>folder options>file types>new>file extension EXE<advanced>application. Attached at the bottom are dds files. Your help would be much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer. I am The Dark Knight and will be assisting you. Please ask questions if anything is unclear. :welcome:

Please download and run Unhide.exe:

Then, please follow these instructions to run ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links and instructions for running this tool:

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix (CF).

Please go here to see a list of programs that need to be disabled.

**Note: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.**

**Note 2: If you get a message saying "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion", please restart your computer.**

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.
