My computer/web browsers  were recently infected with the VisualBee malware toolbar.  I spent lots of time learning what it was and how to remove it, but every website i looked at had different instructions for manual removal and different anti-malware download suggestions.  Eventually i just reset my Firefox and Explorer settings, and uninstalled VisualBee and Conduit from my Control Panel (then restarted).  I wasn't expecting this to solve the problem because lots of other people said they tried that but VisualBee kept coming back to their browsers, or the Contol Panel would crash when attempting to uninstall.  For me it seemed to work and my browsers are behaving normally.  However, I'm wondering if VisualBee could still be hiding in my system somewhere and if further action is needed to COMPLETELY remove it.

i'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Any help is much appreciated!!

ESET Online Scan:
after scanning nearly 500,000 files and being on step 3 of 4, I got an error message saying "OnlineCmdLineScanner.exe has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  But before it stopped working it found this:

C:\ProgramData\VisualBee\VisualBeeSoftware.exe    a variant of Win32/Toolbar.Babylon.A application

I then uninstalled ESET, reinstalled and ran the scan again.  The same thing happened.

Try to run ESET online scanner from safemode with networking.

Following scans should be run from normal mode

Malwarebytes

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. If you already have it installed launch the program and update the database.

  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet and double-click on the it to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings except to uncheck any offer for a free Pro trial version
  • Malwarebytes will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button and continue.
  • Under the Scanner tab, make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box, then click the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked and then click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows the database version and your operating system.
  • Exit Malwarebytes when done.

Note: If Malwarebytes encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally will prevent Malwarebytes from removing all the malware.

i tried ESET Online Scanner in safemode with networking, but the same error occurred.  It scanned the same # of files (almost 500K) but the threat it found previously was not found this time.  I figure it's one of the things Junkware deleted.  Should I just move on to the other scans or should I try to get ESET to complete the scan without error?

thanks!

I ran the rest of the scans.  In the logs there seems to be a lot of info identifying my computer

Ethernet and Wireless IPv4 and IPv6 addresses

Physical address (not my home address, but a string of numbers)

Network destination

files, etc....

I'm just wondering if there is any potential danger of posting all this info on a public forum.  I see that other people have posted similar logs, and you've recommended it,  so I figure it's probably pretty safe.  And any danger is probably irrelevant compared to that posed by the malware/virus... but I'm new to this stuff and I've got some minor paranoia :)

sorry/thanks!!
