Ad-aware keeps finding a registry key for Comet Systems and deletes it, but it keeps coming back. The key is

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2136492297-444937426-1458450816\software\microsoft\internet explorer\toolbar\webbrowser\f36bc4ef-5676-4846-88ae-883323913256

I've run Spybot, Stinger, and CA Etrust and they don't find anything. Below is the HijackThis log. Please let me know how to get rid of this.

Hi,

The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. We start with the oldest logs first. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread.
Then I'll take a look.

Sorry about the double post. When I checked back to look for a response I did a search and couldn't find my post and your website said I hadn't visited since July 2005, so I thought somehow my post didn't go through.

I am still having the same problem. That one registry key shown above will not go away. Here is the new log:

Hello,

I see you are running AdWatch.
I suggest you disable it because it can interfere with the fixes.

To disable AdWatch:

Open AdAware SE.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Adwatch is most probably the cause why that registry entry the scanners find won't get fixed, because adwatch replaces it everytime.
In some cases, we do ask to temporary uninstall Adaware SE pro, because in some cases, adwatch is really stubborn. Once the problem is fixed, we ask to reinstall adaware SE pro. But let's see if we can fix it with adwatch only disabled:

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Let's see if that value still exists:

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:

regedit /e look.txt "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2136492297-4444937426-1458450816-1443\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser"
start notepad look.txt

Save this as look.bat , choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and notepad should open.
Copy and paste the contents of it in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
