I just installed ethernet switch, one line coming from the modem connected to the switch and 2 lines from the switch to 2 laptops. When I open internet on both laptops, this is what I got " Windows has detected an IP conflict - Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer".

Please advise on how to fix this issue.

Thanks.

You need a router, not a switch.  A router will assign an ip address to any device connected to it, and direct information to a specific device.  A switch just allows multiple devices to share a connection.
