Hello all

I have a Gateway FX 6710 that has been shutting down on its own for a couple of days now. I opened it up and while everything looked good and clean I noticed noise coming from the graphics card. I totally took the card apart to find it CAKED in dust and dirt. I then also took the Main processor fan apart to find the heat sink just as bad.

After a full cleaning I also put a drop of oil in the fan hub on the graphics card. i put everything back together and now it is much better but the fan is still making some noise just not as bad.

I attached a file with core temps and specs so hopefully one of you guys or gals can tell me where I stand. I did find what I hope is a suitable fan for the card but its coming from China (Where else)

Thanks!!

I'm no expert when it comes to internal hardware, but just some advice, until the fan arrives, you could always leave the side of the case open.

Opening your side case will attract dust inside your computer. So make sure that you again clean your computer after your fan arrives.

I recently stopped trying to find a replacement fan for my video card....Radeon 3650.  Bit the bullet and got

a new card. The old fan had no markings of any kind on it.

I am interested in knowing where you got your fan and when it arrives if worked as expected.

If you have a link to the fan you bought, please post it.

Yes thanks Chris. I thought about that also. I'm keeping an eye on it and actually ordered a new card I found on Amazon for 75.00. Should be here before the fan.

I just hope my CPU hasn't been damaged as its running at 100%

Well I won't be using it as I just ordered a new card but I'll let you know when it comes in.  I just may do a test with it for comparison. And yes I will post the link shortly

Thanks tpm....that seller had an image of the exact fan I needed and I just ordered it...$5.89

That even included a heat sink that I don't need or can use...the fan blades w/ motor is all I needed.

If you haven't noticed...the fan attaches to the heat sink with 3 teeny tiny screws. Well, on my card it does...

Does anyone know what a good replacement video card would be to replace my ATI Radeon HD4850?  Sitting in a Gateway FX6710

I see this card runs very hot and maybe I should go with something else

Thanks

A brief search for the specs on your comp says it has a 400w power supply. Maybe you upgraded at purchase or later.....

Your video card specs:   450 Watt or greater power supply with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended (550 Watt and two 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology
