Hi guys,

I have this problem with a Windows 2000 machine that is unable to boot at all. I have tried getting into safe mode but that didnt work as well.

Apparently the problem is with the system file that is located in

\winnt\system32\config\

the file "system" is either corrupted or missing which cause the machine unable to boot at all.

The previous admin did not make any emergency disk thus leaving me less options to recover the machine.

Any idea how i can go around this problem and fix it?

I have considered replacing the "system" file from another machine running win2k but have no idea what the impact would be.

One more thing is, does fixmbr rewrites the registry? It does I believe, right? i can't afford to loose the registry.. any manual way or though dos that I can back it up?

please advice.

No, "mbr"=Master Boot Record.
Is this an OEM installation? if not, I take it you have the Win2000 installation cd?
