I just joined - hope I am following correct protocol...
My computer has a "google redirect virus" - I run Firefox, IE, and Chrome - but mainly use Firefox.
I have had the virus since March 9th 2013 (3 days at 11.03.13)
My system is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
I run Malwares - Anti Melware - and also downloaded Malware 'for Google redirect virus detection' - I think it
had Rootkiller / or similar name
I was advised to change name of file before saving - to iexplore.exe - which I did before saving and running.
All Malware scans come up clean - finding no threats - but I definitely have the virus - which sends me to all sorts of useless sites when I activate a Google search result.
In forums I read that Combofix had success for some users - not others - but overall positive.
I read not to use Combofix without advice of 'helper' - hence my post to this site - so some kind person can advise next steps.
I have not yet downloaded Combofix - and I read that some users have created problems by running it - without a helper
I see that any security systems must be 'temporarily' disabled.
I downloaded temp disabling notes from this site - on malwares (square / or 4 square etc) I have never heard than name before -
also notes on Norton (as it is on my system but is out of date. I presume Windows or MS has some security also but I think I saw it as disabled or not switched on.
I am pretty unsavvy on computers - I have downloaded Combofix installation notes - and I think I could do this.
Ok, will leave it there, and look forward to a reply
