Please Help: hard drive error pxe-e61

So I have a refurbished ASUS laptop with windows eight. Last night after restarting for update purposes, it claimed my hard drive was disconnected and gave me a pxe-e61 error on startup. After searching for an answer via my iPod, I finally gave up. This morning, the laptop will turn on, I can hear the machanical part of it starting, but the screen doesn't light up, and I have no clue what's going on. Anybody able to help?

That PXE error code indicates that the system is trying to boot from a network.


Can you connect a monitor to the laptop...and enter the BIOS to check date/time and boot options selected?
