DVD writer failure..

hello genuises, i recently upgraded my computer from an essys motherboard to an original intel board. I have two IDE devices, that is the DVD writter and the hard disk. I have since set the Dvd writter as the master and the Hard disk as slave,since putting them viceversa the Dvd writter couldn't be seeing in Bios.my issue comes in here,  my DVD writer cant be seeing after startup but is present in the bios. It is a LG GSA H42N writter. for me to be able to view the dvd writter this is what i do;right click computer>manage>device manager>then i scan for hardware changes, thats is how i am able to locate it but as soon as i shutdown the machine it gets lost again...i have also tried to update the firmware but it says the firmaware is up to date pliz help me on this

What is the model of the new motherboard?

I just wanted to make sure that this motherboard only had one IDE connector.

 

The hdd jumper must be set as Master and connected to the first plug, the DVD-RW should be set as Slave and attached to the inner plug.

yeah i tried that but the problem is that once i set the DVD as slave my motherboard doesnt see the drive.so for it to be seen i had to set the DVD as master and the harddisk as slave...any tricks i could use for the DVD to be seen and yet be set as a slave?

Depending on the age of the optical drive you may be able to set the jumper to cable select, try setting the optical drive this way and keep the hdd set as the master.

 

I went to Newegg to price a PCI to IDE card and found that you can purchase a DVD-RW for about twenty dollars, an adapter would cost that much.
