Hi guys.

I've searched on here for this problem but nothing shows up.

I installed Win7 yesterday and the weather gadget said Service not available. Ok I needed to sort out my web connection for it to work. I sorted that but it still shows

I didn't like Win7 so I put Vista back and the weather gadget shows the same message, so is it a glitch on the weather system?

I Google with this error but nothing useful came back, all they said was check the region settings which are English (United Kingdom). I typed in London and New York but the service was still unavailable.

Another side said i need the old Beta version of wlsrvc.dll. Fix Vista Weather Gadget Service not available

I searched for this dll and its not on my drive

Any suggestions or does your weather gadget work?

As I mentioned here, weather gadget is temporarily not working.  Microsoft knows about it.

Keith...per the info in your link..."You know, there is an easier answer to this problem that everyone seems to have overlooked.

Microsoft's weather service is horrible and goes down all the time
(several times a week on average). All you have to do is wait a while,
and it will start working again all by itself once Microsoft resets
their server that the gadget connects to.

It's exactly for this reason I switched to the Wuderground gadget
from Weather Underground. It's got a very similar look/feel/style as the
Microsoft weather gadget and their servers are up 99.9999%, unlike
MS's. Not to mention it's got handy extras that are uncluttered and
unobtrusive.

Don't mean to sound like I'm plugging the alternative. I love(ed) the
Microsoft gadget for it's raw functional simplicity. But it doesn't do
anyone any good when their service is down all the time."

Wunderground is what I have used for years...it just gets better.

Well I don't know that the service goes down as it was working before I installed Win7 and an hour later its missing. If you click on Get more gadgets they no longer have additional gadgets as some can be harmful.

There is a fix on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662#FixItForMe but that didn't cure anything.

I've Googled for Vista gadgets and I found Weather Vista Gadget 1.1.0.6 I downloaded it and did a virus and malware scan all clear. I added it to the Windows Sidbar folder then added it and it works exaclty the same as the MS version.

It must be just bad timing when it worked before and an hour later it stopped.

Good...but if it fails again...

This looks like it has potential...

I have written a blog post on the fix: http://my.opera.com/wikipedian/blog/2013/03/08/fix-it-weather-gadget-and-currency-gadget-not-work-in-windows-7-displaying-ca

I have made a report of this issue to Microsoft. You can read about it here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-winapps/weather-gadget-and-currency-gadget-not-work-in/e6f207aa-aeec-4d70-a694-fa763debadc6. Microsoft said they will post updates into the thread.

Update: killyourtv on the Norton forum has said Microsoft has fixed the problem and the gadgets should now be working. No manual intervention needed.  jcmartins  on Microsoft Answers have confirmed the fix by Microsoft.
