Posted 02 April 2006 - 04:57 PM

I had SurfSidekick and tried to fix it myself using tips from these posts. I have deleted all the programs I could identify from Add/Remove Programs, I have scanned my computer with Adaware, SpyBot and Ewido. I identified the following things that seems to be running on my machine that are causing the issues: e6tw76cpw.exe, slk8x2peu.exe, keyboard7, mousepad7, sys00, and sys02004038465-2, but I can't seem to get rid of them. These pop-ups are driving me crazy!!!

Here is my HijackThis log:

Hi,

The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. We start with the oldest logs first. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread.
Then I'll take a look.

Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.

Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folders, and delete them if still present:
Be careful here!! This infection creates bogus folders which look like legit folders also present there, so make sure you don't delete the legit folders!!!

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\F?nts <== this folder, will most probably look like Fonts and contains the file c?rss.exe. Please don't delete the legit Folder Fonts. The legit folder fonts contains a LOT of files with fonts for your system, so you'll recognise it. Don't delete that folder!
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CURITY~1 <== this folder, most probablt look like security and contains the file regedit.exe. Please make sure you don't delete the legit folder! This bad folder has to contain the file regedit.exe. Also make sure you don't delete regedit.exe anywhere else!!!

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
* Open Ewido anti-malware
Click on scanner

* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

* Reboot your system back to normal mode.

* Download and Save blacklight to your C:\ Important!!.
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Then go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

C:\blbeta.exe /expert

This should open your blacklight.
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there...
There must be also a log on your C:\ with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
I need that log later

* Download FindQoologic.zip save it to your C:\.
http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/FindQool.zip

Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQool.
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html

This folder should be present on your C:\
In case it's not present there, move the FindQool folder to C:\ otherwise it won't work.
Then open the FindQool folder.
Locate and double-click the Qlocate.bat file to run it.

This will scan your system.
This will open a log. I'll need that log later.

* Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Post next logs in your next reply:
  • Panda log
  • Ewido log
  • Findqool log (which will be present in the findqool-folder on your C:\ with the name report.txt)
  • blacklight log which will be present on your C:\ with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)

I am having some real issues here. Ewido keeps getting stuck when removing C:/ProgramFiles/SurfSidekick3/Ssk.exe and won't go any further. I can't even get the log. I have tried it 3 times and the same thing happens. What should I do? Should I continue the other steps with Blacklight and Qoologic and Panda and get those logs?

Perform this first..

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

"C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe" /u

Click enter.

A new window will open asking you for a code you'll find in the same screen. Enter that code and reboot afterwards.

Then try the ewido scan again.

Hello,

but wasn't able to get Blacklight or Panda Online Scan to work

Can you tell me what exact error you get when running blacklight? This is important.

Also, can you post a new hijackthislog please?

We are not finished here yet, your system is still terribly infected

Ok, can you perform next again please?
I already asked you to run Look2me destroyer, but not sure you did that step properly.

* Download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to a folder of itís own (c:\BFU).
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

Next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window you'll see a little icon as shown in next picture: Posted Image
When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute'
In the field, copy and paste next URL:

http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu

Click Ok.
Then click execute in Brute Force Uninstaller.

Extra note:
If nothing happens after pressing the Execute button, this means that the script didn't download. In that case, download the script ( alcanshorty.bfu ) manually from above url ( rightclick on it and choose 'save as' and save it in your BFU-folder). Then start BFU.exe again and click the browse button next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window
Browse to the script you downloaded and Click Ok and Execute in Brute Force Uninstaller.

Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 1 minute. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/images/lib/MSWINSCK.OCX

Post a new hijackthislog in your next reply together with the log from Look2me destroyer, which will be present on your desktop.

Hello,

Look2me Destroyer is not supposed to start after reboot. You misread my instructions. Once you clicked: 'run as a task', then it will close and reopen.
Anyway, seems like it worked.. because no traces of look2me in your log anymore.

Ok, let's deal with the rest now..

Once again, every step performing in the right order is really important.

Please download LSPfix and save it to the Desktop and unzip it.
* Run LSPfix and place a check against the I know what I am doing checkbox.

Highlight every instance of the following name newdotnet6_38.dll and move it from the Keep to the Remove panel. Be sure to move nothing other than newdotnet6_38.dll!!
Please make sure you don't do it the opposite way or you will loose your internet connection.
It could be possible newdotnet6_38.dll is already in the Remove panel.

Then click on Finish to exit the program; do not use the X in the top right-hand corner as nothing will happen!

Reboot.

* Download Killbox.
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".
Click the button: All Files (!important!)
Now it should flash green.

Now copy the next bold part:

C:\WINDOWS\sys02004038465-2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ms044038465-200.exe
C:\WINDOWS\win3208465-2004038.exe
C:\WINDOWS\UNWN.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\OUGHYA~1.DLL

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.

Your computer should reboot now.

Ignore the errors you will get after reboot.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

sc delete "Windows Overlay Components"

Click ok.

Delete next folders:

C:\Program Files\webHancer
C:\Program Files\NewDotNet

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\qstat]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall\webnexus]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\classes\folder\shellex\columnhandlers\{ce3a44d8-bc88-4d62-a890-42d96245f8d6}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{ce3a44d8-bc88-4d62-a890-42d96245f8d6}]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Normally you should be able to run blacklight again. So perform the step I gave you previously to run blacklight. Save that log, I'll need it later.

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:

dir C:\bintheredunthat /a h >> check.txt
start notepad check.txt

Save this as check.bat , choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and notepad should open.
Copy and paste the contents of it in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog and the log from blacklight.

So, when I ran sc delete "Windows Overlay Components" it opened the DOS window quickly and then closed so there was nothing to click ok for. Is that ok?

So, next do I just delete the folders you mentioned using Explorer?
