Greetings, new poster, tech with a friends laptop that freezes after boot, win and safe mode, looks like a new malware.

Screen goes white, CRL/ALT/DEL still brings up "security screen" but choosing "start task manager" sends you back to white screen. Screen has no icons or task areas but box is not realy frozen: mouse is visible and moves normaly. A custom sound is played on first press of CTL or ALT keys but displays nothing. After about 2 minutes the screen displays the desktop background for 2 seconds and return to blank white. The behavior started after the owner visited his home town paper website in BC canada. No way to gain control and make changes that will last after reboot. All help welcome! Mike

Safemode with command prompt?

If that doesnt work,

Restart the PC

Press F8 on bootup

Select REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER

Click on REPAIR

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:

Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Command Prompt

Can you get to this screen?

If yes, select system restore and try restoring to previous point

GOOD CALL! I forgot that win7 uses WPE for the restore environment so none of the infected files are active during restore. Got it restored to before the infection date and started MBAM and removing many infections. On the way to success. TNX Mike
