System:

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Service Pack 1

Lenovo Thinkpad Edge

Intel ® i7 ® CPU 2.10 GHz

4GB of RAM

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This laptop will work fine when it is booted up and for ~30 minutes after that. Then it starts to get slow to the point where web pages refuse to load and it takes a good 2-3 MINUTES to open up Task Manager. CPU usage is not high at all when this happens. I have run Memtest86+ as well as Seatools for Windows and the diagnostic tools from the BIOS to rule out a hardware problem. I have backed up my files and reinstalled Windows, only to have the same thing happen. Scans with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials have come up clean as well. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to try next?

Download MiniToolBox and select all options.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

Download SecurityCheck.exe from Here

. Run SecurityCheck and follow the instruction from inside the code box.
. When the scan is finished, a notepad will automatically open as check.txt
Please copy and paste the contents here on your next reply.

Download Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.
. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot
. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard
. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post.

My money would be on the hard drive...but I'm not adept enough to interpret SMART data in any way.

I'll move your topic to Internal Hardware where the more knowledgeable can verify/refute my guess :).

That was my initial thought as well, but, as I stated in the original post, I ran some tests on the hard drive and it passed every one. This truly is a mystery... I suppose it could still be the hard drive.

Hi

A screen capture of the Performance tab of the Task Manager after the problem occurs

Run this and post a log please. Process Explorer,

Download Process Explorer:
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply.

Good Luck
Roger

Sorry for the late reply. According to the Smart Speccy report

05 Reallocated Sectors Count: 049 (049) Data 000000041D

The problem with these red flag or critical error for smart reading is, a bad sector replaced/reallocated is not guaranteed to perform and tolerate both either the reading and writing function of the drive overtime. From a bad sector to become a good sector, the read/write process must be able to transfer/write the piece of data from the bad sector to the new sector and able to read successfully. Since there was already a reformat drive involve and the root problem still exist, it is safe to say that the drive is not reliable anymore.

First Step is to Backup the registry.

Registry Backup

Registry Backup is a free utility that allows you to backup and restore
your Windows Registry using Shadow Volume Services.  This program will
backup all Registry settings including those for each user profile in
Windows.  In the future, if your Registry becomes corrupt or damaged,
you can easily select a previously created Registry backup and restore
it.

For msconfig do these two. Note that I checked Hide Microsoft services on the services tab.

then on the Startup tab see what shows.

What I would do is disable everything by unchecking the box next to the name  excluding Your Antivirus and see if it still gets slow after a while.

Do not forget to Reboot before testing.

Good Luck

Roger

The format done was a quick format from the Windows install disk. Could doing a complete format with DBAN possibly fix the issue?

Yes, You could try DBAN or a full format but its a no guarantee if the flag counts would reset or decrease. Usually on drives even with successful replacements of bad sectors/reallocated sectors, they are best replaced and become secondary drives or secondary backups in my case.
