One of our Forum Rules states:

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures.

For this reason I suspect you will not receive help defeat the password protected accounts.

What I would suggest doing is to wipe the hdd with a  program like Darik's Boot and Nuke and do a fresh installation of Vista.

What version of Vista do you have?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

thanks for the reply Arachibutyrophobia, I did not wan tto defeat the pw protection, although that would be easier, if there were a way I don't know.

I have vista home premium version. There are 4 accounts on here only 2 pw protected, I am able to access the unprotected one's, but I try control panel and won't populate any thing. Wiping the hd is what I thought of, thanks for the advice, I will probably start with that unless u have better info. But I don't have a vista disk but do have a win xp disk, do you know will that work? There is also a vista restore partition on the laptop, but don't know how to access that.

Welcome to BP.

There is windows password software on eBay if you search for it. I don't know how good it is I've never used it or passwords.

most HPs will have a factory restore function by tapping F11 during startup (when you first see the HP screen after pressing power) that will boot into a mode that will allow you to erase everything and set the laptop to the way it came from the factory.

Otherwise I would point you to some digitalriver download links for vista ... or purchase restore discs from hp direct (those are nice because you don't have to download drivers).
