While in my Windows 7, the green icon was still on, but next to it a red icon appeared and a banner indicating Security Essentials was no longer protecting and I would have to turn it back on. When I tried to turn it back on, it sent me to a menu of other scanning protection programs and would not run a Security Essentials scan. In other words, no option to turn it back on. I turned off the computer, and it rebooted fine, with the green icon restored and no sign of the red. I ran a virus scan and no problems or sign of attack. However, today, the same thing happened.  Obviously I would like Security Essentials to be "turned on" and protecting us...{thanks}.
