Today the update attempts to get flash player v11.6 , I guess for Internet Explorer, did not work.  Error box came up saying could not load application configuration and I could not figure what to do from the adobe website.

I initially had the same trouble with trying to update the flash player for Firefox, but ... then I forgot what process I took, but I found myself on a adobe download page and I downloaded something.  It was an installer, but it disappeared and is no longer present on the machine so I can't tell you a file name.  It was a filename that indicated it was an installer, it was about 800 or 900 kb size, and when I downloaded it, I double clicked on it, and then the file disappeared; and then the installer opened.  This installer itself downloaded on its own yet another file and then ran an installation and after several minutes, I had version 11.6.6---something of flash player for Firefox.  (I know some of my 'forgot' process was to use the add-ons Check For Plugin Updates for Firefox.)

So can someone tell me how I can download something to update the flash player for Intermet Explorer to work similarly as I was able to do with Firefox?  I do not really want to try going to some adobe page, clicking download but only to be given instructions for "Run",...,"Run", and then have another "failed to load application configuration".  I would like to really download an installer, a file that I can find ON THE COMPUTER, and then be able to run it and hopefully get the installer to work.

Current on the machine:  version 11.4.402 flash player ActiveX, version 11.6.6* flash player plugin, Windows XP s.p. 3; Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 18.
