I got this scary question on boot up, a program has tried unsuccessfully to change the bios, press y to open the bios to inspect the changes or n to boot with the old bios. I pressed n.

Is this an attack or do legitimate programs change bios? I did not think changing a bios in this way was even possible.

The only change I recall is I updated Java before this happened and the java updater tried to open all the running processes. I don't know if opening processes is common because it may just be that I am just getting more messages from Zone Alarm instead of Norton firewall which I had been using. (I will probably use Norton again now that I found it was not responsible for a certain connection problem I had)

I am using Windows 7 Professional
