Hi all

This was purchsed in 07

It worked fine last I used it last spring.

Has not been touched since and now all lights come on and HD light goes out in a few seconds.

All other lights stay on screen stays black. Chaned HDs and no change.

Basically it went south on me just sitting there for a while . Took out battery for a minute and no change.

Battery is charging.

I cannot figure  out what screwed up.     Bios? Internal Battery ?

Thanks

Could be any number of things with a laptop. If your comfortable dismantling a laptop, I would find and replace the CMOS battery if possible, and see if that corrects the issue. I wouldnt cross my fingers though, most computers will boot even with a bad CMOS battery.

I have a Compaq laptop with a faulty "ON" mobo switch, in this case holding it pressed hard for a long time (half a minute) boots it every second time.

Try to boot without battery. Take out battery, then without it being plugged into power press the on button, this will discharge any static accumulated electricity that might be there,  connect to PSu and try to power on with the battery staying out.

Tried that and still all lights stay on except the HD light and screen stays black.. Under normal operation all the lights wouldn't stay on like that...strange.

HD is out of it now...but it still should do something.......huh
