Hello,

My PC got recently infected by some nasty trojans/malware. With a big help of nasdaq (addict of this forum) I got rid of them and my PC should be clean now. However, my PC is still slow and there are some issues with audio (it is scratchy). Nasdaq suggested to post a new topic in this category as the PC should be free of viruses now. You can find my previous topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/481368/ensuring-no-more-trojans-and-malware-on-my-pc

I reviewed pinned topics (on the top of this category) and made all suggested things (disk cleanup, defragmenting, etc. + I reinstalled audio drivers and codecs but nothing helped) so I decided to post a new topic.

I use Windows XP Home edition.

Can you pls help me to speed up the PC?

Thank you.

Can you pls help me to speed up the PC?

Please note that most XP installed computers are now over 10 years old, and as such they will start to "slow down"

You could list the Make and Model of computer and post a snapshot with Speccy as this may give us a bit more to look at -
Publish a Snapshot using Speccy < < Follow These Directions

Hello noknojon,

Thank you for taking over the issue. I understand what you mean and my PC is not the youngest but slowing down is not the issue of the age of PC. As before the malware infection the PC was running OK (of course not so fast as today´s computers) but still good. But now the application is opening like half a minute or so. Well it is very obvious that there is some problem since the malware occured...but anyway I will post here the report as soon as I get to my "problematic" PC

Hi -

RAM - Memory slots - Total memory slots: 4 - Used memory slots: 2 - Free memory slots: 2
You could try to double the size  of RAM installed ?? Size: 512 MBytes Manufacturer: Infineon per slot -
The installed RAM is Minimum only and can be 1GIG in each slot, you have 1/2GIG per slot - Simple -
While the computer is open, clean out any dust etc and it will help -

Thank You -

Following this -

Please Go > Control Panel > System > Hardware and open Device Manager

Are there any items with ( ! or ? ) beside them. You seem to have a few faults in some hardware drivers

If there are any, Please list all of them -

I noticed that your HDD temps are quite high.  Do you have any temperature issues?

If you have run the usual list of tests then it's uphill.  I find the best way to ensure that a PC keeps its speed is to keep an eye on it over time (and routine maintenance programs) so that any changes are easily seen.  For example, I run Process Explorer all the time with the icon in the tray so I can keep an eye on CPU usage and which process is dominant.  It's easy to maximize to investigate strange goings on.  I mostly find my AV is the bottleneck but there are occasionally others.  There are a number of Sysinternals tools you can run, but if you don't do it regularly, you have nothing to compare.  It's surprising how much is going on when the PC is doing nothing.

It's possible that the slow behaviour is affecting the audio.  Other than that, scratchy would usually indicate poor connections somewhere.

Registry cleaners are frowned on in this forum for the great unwashed.  Personally I've headed off some serious issues, like 8,000 new reg entries a day from an app that went postal, by having one I trust.

I noticed at least 3 languages in the report - is it suffering from EEC bureaucracy?

My main PC is 9 years old and runs really well (24 hours a day) with IDE drives and 1GB of RAM, so age is not relevant if maintenance is adequate.

 Hi -
Apart from the 2 Hard Drives running a bit hot (as per Nanobyte) Temperature Range: warning (50 °C to 55 °C)
This shows here > BE: Temperature Difference from 100: 048 (026) Data 0000000034
149GB Western Digital WDC WD1600JS-75NCB1 (SATA): 52 °C149GB Western Digital WDC WD1600JS-75NCB1 (SATA): 54 °C
Go to File Name: WinDlg_124.zip
where you can read the Release notes, or just click on the Download button and save to desktop, for a Zipped version of the tests - Unzip and Extract all again to desktop -
You have 2 Western Digiral HDDs installed, so you may need to test both.
There are 2 tests to run, a short test first, then a long test. Please tell us how they go -

The item that still gets me is "Graphics: The specified service has been marked for deletion."
Have you replaced the Graphics card recently, or made any changes to the settings to it ?
In Device Manager, please tell me of the listing for the Graphics card. It may be listed under Display Adaptors -

Once the above tests are completed: Please run a basic Diskcheck -
Run a Disk Check on your C: drive in Windows :
•Click Start and open My Computer
•Right-click on C: (or your main Hard Drive letter) and select Properties
•Click on the Tools tab
•Under Error-checking click the Check Now... button
•Mark the 2 boxes next to Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
•Click on the Start button
•When the message box pops up, click the Schedule disk check button and >>Restart<< your computer
•Once your computer restarts it will check the drive, don't press any keys so that it is allowed to do so
This will take between 1 and 2 hours (on average), then reboot back to Normal mode -

Thank You -

Edited for Spelling -

Hi,

short test: passed

extended one: passed

I have not made any change to graphics. I attach a printscreen of device mngr:

I rancheckdisk on both C: and D:  but no improvement.

Checking of C: took around 10 hrs!  Also, extended HDD test of C:  took more than 14 hrs!

I think there is something wrong with C:  disk.

thank you.

Hi -

You are having quite a few severe issues, so I am asking a few others for help with this.

If you Update and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free and SuperantiSpyware Free on a regular basis, I can see no current infections present, and only a few other very minor updates / programs to look at.

There is almost nothing to indicate reasons for the problems that I can see, except faulty hardware -

Please be patient as I hope to get someone to review this -

Thank You -
