I got a tip about Java having some huge security flaws and was told I didn't need it on my machine. ay. I uninstalled it through control panel. Was this OK? My Browser seems to be working fine except I am noticing some longer delays on some sites but no error messages or anything like that.

I'm still using XP service pak 3 and IE8 for just a few more months hopefully.

I  (XP, SP3 and Win 7) have run both with and without Java over the last month...did not see any inconveniences to removing it.

As for the security vulnerabilities...they exist in various apps and Windows itself, as evidenced by the fact that security updates to these are routine.  Best approach I can suggest would be to keep such updated in a timely manner, if installed.
