this REALLY bothers me. because i do EXACTLY what it says and it never works.

http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/UXTh...nload-2802.html

according to this, all i have to do is download this, and replace the existing uxtheme.dll and i should be able to use 3rd party themes. but it doesnt work.

i had a nice apple theme that worked when i had Stlye XP installed. but 2 things:

1) they make u have to pay after a month for it to continue working
2) those stupid theme programs use up the computers computing power

there you can see the theme, panther. i can see it when i go to my computer. double clicking it just brings up the properties window, but no theme is there. just xp and classic.

i go to the display properties where u select the theme and go to browse...

i go to the panther folder and the theme doesnt show up. it only displays Theme files. Panther (and other 3rd party themes) all say Visual style file. and dont show up under browse.

so i dont know what to do. i just want to use new themes without paying or having another program runing just to display it. that patch says its supposed to work.

Did you notice this instruction:

How to use this file:
1) Download the file and extract in a handy location (eg: your Desktop). This should create a new uxtheme.dll file in that location.
2) Go to C:WINDOWSSystem32 and rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.dll.old
3) Put the new uxtheme.dll into C:WINDOWSSystem32
4) If you get any warnings from Windows stating that an original system file has been replaced, you must click "Cancel", otherwise the new uxtheme.dll will be replaced with the original one.
5) Reboot
