I am looking to repair my wifes laptop, according to HP tech support the motherboard needs to be replaced but they want too much to do it, so I am looking at doing it either myself or finding someone capable.

I have a couple of questions while I am looking for a replacement board. I have replaced many desktop components before but never a motherboard, and never on a laptop. I'm certain I can swap everything out but would I be looking at any soldering?

I know I will also have to switch over the CPU which is something I have never done, it is an intel atom N455, I was wondering if someone might have a recommendation for thermal paste and application.

Any other tips would be great, its been dead for a while and she would really like to get it back running again.
