My girlfriends computer has been having some serious strange shell issues lately and I was trying to get to the root of the problem. Her malawarebytes has been constantly warning her about blocking access to a malicious site lately. I decided to run a scan on her computers and discovered something turned off her firewall and windows defender.

I cannot get the firewall to turn on, although I did get Defender to re-activate. I ran scans with AVG, Defender, and Malawarebytes. All 3 have turned up nothing. When I check her windows processes, I get about 2,000 processes. 99% of which are either conhost.exe or network shells. I feel she may have a zombie virus, but I'm not 100% sure that's what this could be.

Was curious if anyone could help me resolve this issue.

I'm trying to get Malwarebytes to work. The shell likes to crash when it runs. I managed to get it to do a full scan earlier before I came here and it didn't pick up anything then. Do you want that log instead? I'll keep trying.

All of this has done nothing so far. Problem still persists.

Some other examples of things happening that I can detail:

The Shell goes BONKERS at random. Becomes unrespensive requiring a restart (ctrl alt del doesnt even work), the screen doesnt get correctly drawn to, Chrome is crashing very often. (5-10 times an hour).

And as I stated earlier, when I can get ctrl alt del working, it shows thousands of console windows and network shells being ran. (Usually 1,000~ of each)

It also makes the computer "update" everytime it is shut down and restart. This update takes roughly 30 minutes each time. (The update is strange in that is occurs on the Manufacturer splash screen rather than the windows 8 metro screen, which is where windows updates takes place. Once the splash screen hits 12-13% then it switches to the metro screen, so I don't know if this is any help to you.)
