Right click on your startmenu-properties

Check mark

store and display recently opened programs
store and display recently items

Click on customize

Click on Use default settings at the bottom

Now go to

c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows

right click on startmenu folder, click on restore previous versions

Now select a snapshot before you were infected by the rogue, click on restore

You should get back the startmenu programs

This should also restore fake HDD folder(with dead icons)in your startmenu.Just delete the folder

good luck

Thank you for your response but i think i have a problem. Part of the cleaning process after ridding the malware that i had was to dump the restore points so i really don't have anything to restore to.

I hope there is another way.

Appreciate the help
