Hi, I am hoping someone can help me please.
I have an Acer Aspire about 2 years old running windows 7.
About a month ago it started to slow down, then it lost wireless capability followed shortly after by a loss of internet connection even when wired to the modem!
I ran a full virus check with AVG but the next time I went to boot it up it wouldn't start.
Windows couldn't diagnose or fix the fault, and when in the recovery (?) menu it wont recognise any of the backups on the hard drive (says they are not there!!)
I thought "Oh well never mind!" and tried to back up all files to a folder and then format the drive...this option failed so then I went for a full reset without backing it up, after about an hour and the progress still at 0% I got a message saying "restore failed. Error code OX45d (WIMApplyimage cannot apply image: the request could not be preferred because of an I/O device error)
I can't get into safe mode and when I try to start windows i just get the multicoloured window in the middle of the screen saying windows is loading. I have even left this on overnight but it hasn't loaded.
Unfortunately I don't think I have a boot disk for the system although my job for the evening is to try and find the box for it in the hope one is in there.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated

Did you ever find the OS disk?

Thanks for replying.

Heven't found any disks yet, still looking but I don't really hold out any hope.

The model is Acer aspire 5745, if this helps at all!

Regards

Jon

Hey jon the swan, smile.png

Let's try the following:

Download http://noahdfear.net/downloads/bootable/NTBR_CD.exe"]NTBR_CD[/url] by noahdfear.

  • Extract its contents to the desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the NTBR_CD folder and click on the BurnItCD application.
  • Insert a blank CD when prompted. The .iso image will be burned to the CD.
  • Boot the sick computer with the CD you just burned and follow the prompts.
  • Press Enter for English.
  • At the menu type 5 to select Command prompt then hit Enter
  • At the prompt type the following and press Enter after each line:

    cd tools
    cd ntfs4dos
    CHKDSK /F
  • Once CHKDSK is completed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the machine.
  • Eject the CD upon restart and boot normally.

Success?
