My daughter has vista home professional, out of blue she starts getting a message asking for user account password for everything, unfortunately as far as she knows she never had a user account password. Due to this she can't defrag, get updates, or almost anything, can anybody help me with this?

Has the possibility of infection...occurred to her or you?

You really haven't provided much info about the situation.

Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 .

Has she tried booting into safe mode? System manufacturer and model?

Try this:

Go to Start, in the Run box type in control userpasswords2 and then press Enter.

When the window opens uncheck the box Users must enter a user name and password to sue this computer and then restart your computer to see if this has resolved this.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
