No. If I have ever had it installed I would have uninstalled with Revo

My other idea is to go here and run the Fix-It

It found no problems, therefore fixed nothing.

I should have made it clear in post #5. "It" means the "Fix-it".

It is possible if some file was corrupted. Have you tred reinstslling Defender?

MiniToolBox
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run. Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
>>>

ADW Cleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete.
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Hi. Will run scans when I have access to that machine later today. How do you re-install defender only? I guess I could install Security Essentials. I have a paid version of Kaspersky I am using right now. I would like to get rid of W. defender completely if possible.

I already tried that(1st) method. I get the same error no matter what I try on Defender. Right after I hit the save button.

I will try the other methods tonight and let you know what happens.

Windows Defender for W7 is without a doubt the most useless program Microsoft has ever put out...........disable it.

Be forewarned Microsoft in their infinite stupidity has renamed MSE to Windows Defender in W8............I kid you not. :(

I was able to disable it in services. Thanks! I did go ahead and run the scans for you to look at just to be sure nothing is going on. When you look at these error logs keep in mind that this machine has not had any Windows Live programs used with my permission since a re-install with a re-format. I do have a couple of questions to ask you after you look at the scans. Oh yeah, the avg file that adw cleaner deleted will come back. I have tried everything and it always comes back. Thanks
