Random Computer Hanging?

Okay, bear with me because I have little knowledge with regards to computers.

So I noticed it happen a long ways, few months back, but one time it hanged and I resetted and it was completely okay from then on. Considering it happened only once, I stupidly believed my friend that sometimes computers have little slip-ups. Ugh, wrong move. I'm so sorry. This is probably going to be a story of neglect, so now I need help.

Now, recently, it would hang a few times at random moments. Sometimes a little after start-up, when it's loading all the programs from the start, at some times just...at a completely random moment. I would restart it, but sometimes upon pushing the restart button, it would sometimes turn off, then turn on again, and sometimes (everything is so randomly patterned) it would turn off. I would cut the power completely, wait a few minutes, and possibly try again. By now I'm getting more and more anxious as this action increases at every moment.

Googling does little help since 'hanging' computers is such a broad broad topic, but I think it might be a hardware issue?

I'm not sure how to clean my CPU since admittedly, I don't want to touch anything in case I screw up. I know well enough about static and all that but I am not in a country that provides all the computer parts and necessities in the world. Heck, canned air was just newly introduced here. It's a real pain.

In any case, could I ask anyone for a little assistance? :(

I'm not sure what else to take and do to proceed. I'm a little iffy, admittedly, at installing strange programs. I reaallly don't want to screw this up because I'm not exactly able to afford much since I'm just a high schooler.

No BSODs for this issue. It hasn't BSOD'd in the lonnnnngest time. Just hangs at the screen. *sigh* And here I thought the old vidcard would be my only problem.

Go to safemode (F8) on early boot up and disable Automatic Restart.

Download SecurityCheck.exe from Here

. Run SecurityCheck and follow the instruction from inside the code box.
. When the scan is finished, a notepad will automatically open as check.txt

Hello Rucci,
Do you see this problem when your in safemode? When the computer hangs, can you still toggle the caps lock light on or off? Try reseatting also the cable connection of your hard drive. Is the hanging problem happening only when windows is loaded or even during early boot-up?

I'll try in safemode but the freezing is completely random. I can't tell when it happens. It's finally decreased a bit though I'm not sure what I did. I deleted a few irrelevant files and uninstalled some old programs. I cleaned up using CCleaner and defragged it with defraggler. And did a little dusting off inside the CPU though only lightly.

When it freezes, I'll try and click the capslock. It froze once while watching something on VLC but by a miracle it unfroze itself a few seconds later.

The problem only occurs when windows has loaded. It would usually freeze after some programs from startup finish loading. That's why I wait a few seconds before I open anything now.

Please check your hardware temperature just in case. Download HWmonitor http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Download MiniToolBox and select
List Last 10 Event Viewers, List Installed Programs and List Users, Partitions and Memory Size.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

Please disable Windows Defender and check Windows Firewall if its also disabled.
Go to Start and type services.msc, Enter. Look for Windows Defender and double click and change to Disable.
Check also Windows Firewall if its not running and disable it as ESET Smart has a built-in Firewall. It might be a glitch on speccy readings as looking into it is said to be running.

My temperature right now is 45C. I don't know if the weather has something to do with it, but I live in a pretty tropical country and since the room is small, my CPU is located just 3-4 inches off the ground. I wish I knew how to cool it. I'm pretty sure it used to be around 37C back then but now it barely goes lower than 40.

I would suggest running the free version of Malwarebytes and Adwcleaner as in some cases some hiccups may be due to malware infections and unwanted programs lurking in your system. Please post the logs if there were threats found using Mbam.

The problem might also originate from a faulty video card or driver itself. Please check the driver version/date of your card in device manager - properties. Speccy shows version 8.961.0.0. The driver for the card is here

I'm back. I thought it was fine again, boy was I ever wrong.

 

Today, it froze on the booting screen, just prior to it switching to windows startup. Now I know it's probably hardware.

 

I dusted the fan and jiggled the videocard a little. It came back on. I think it could be the vidcard. It's kind of outdated and secondhand from my brother.

 

It USED to beep on start up before, so it could tell me that it couldn't recognize the videocard. Now it just doesn't tell me anything but I'm assuming that this is the problem...?

 

So can it be said it could be the vidcard?

I tried the capslock test, no go. Capslock doesn't work while hanging.

I might try safemode next.

What happen the last time in safemode? Did it worked? Were you able to try the onboard video of the motherboard?

Safe mode had no hanging whatsoever. I played a few videos to see if it'd hang. It didn't. I only stuck around for 15 minutes because I didn't know what else to do there.

I noticed the AMD driver. No matter how many times I update, it reverts back to ver 12.10 or something. It refuses to acknowledge newer updates.

I'm kinda scared to unplug things so I'll get back to that when my brother comes home.

Okay, I lost my patience and did it anyway. I took out the video card and used the motherboard's.

 

The color quality is atrocious.

 

So far no hanging whatsoever. I'll let you know if anything happens in the next few days.
