Peace:
Just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my computer but can't get the Lexmark printer to respond. The system recognizes the printer and a message comes up that printing is in progress but nothing happens at the printer. I have the mfg disk and a cdrom drive that recognizes the disk. How do I get the system to extract the drivers? Ps. this is a great system! Tried DSL on a Neoware Internet Appliance booted from a flashdrive! aki

A few years back I gave up on getting a Lexmark printer to work on Ubuntu.

Things may have changed since then. Give the model name/ number of your printer and
I will help you find some info on the web for finding and installing the correct drivers....if they exist.

EDIT: Do you see your printer listed in the link below?

Peace:
The printer is a Lexmark x4850. The only thing on the list that is close is the 4600 series.
Am new at Linux and am trying to understand how to use Ubuntu.aki
Just installed the Synaptic Package Manager. When the screen comes up and I key 'Edit", there is a choice to add a CDRom and insert the CD. The message is 'can't mount the CD' even though the drive and it's files are recognized. This mfg.CD works fine in Windows. I will try any suggestions. aki

Honestly from what I have read and experienced on my own, it seems lexmark and linux do not get along, which is sad to say the least,

You will need to do your printing in Windows or get a Linux friendly printer. There are several
manufacturers who provide Linux drivers.

Some of the Linux friendly printers listed here for comparison: Linux Deal - Linux-Compatible Printers

Peace:
Thanks ALL for your help. I have both OS on the harddrive and Lexmark works on XP.
I wish the Ubuntu forums would speak in a language that Windows users Absolutely New to Ubuntu can understand. Thank you again, aki
