Hello all,
Hope this is the right section. I have a Desk top PC .. AMD Sempron ™ Processor 3200+ 1.80 Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.
I formatted in September 2011 .. and have never had a single problem. I do hear a click every now and again for the last 3-4 months
The PC stays on 24/24 for work reasons (translations AUS/US).
I turned it off, disconnecting everything from the mains/UPS on Dec. 14 as I was leaving the country.
Got back Jan 21 and I get black screen with Disk load failure etc.
I entered the boot section and manually rebooted from SATA 1 and it worked fine.

I rebooted and entered the BIOS to check boot order .. it seems OK .. 1 CD, 2. Hard Drive 3. Floppy.
Cool & Quiet is disabled
I checked the Device Manager and there is an unknown device as seen in link
I also checked the System as seen in link.
I tried updating the driver for the unknown device ... to no avail.

I am starting to run out of ideas .. from what I can gather ... it cannot find the SATA drivers .. but I am no expert.

Does anyone have any ideas please ??

Thanks in advance

Jen

Sorry ...
https://picasaweb.google.com/116967663046434358307/DiskBootFailure?authkey=Gv1sRgCJSQrPmHz7PbjAE

What I seem to understand at present is that it is trying to boot from the MAXTOR which is just a Data Storage and not from the other C HDD.
As soon as I switch to the Sata it boots fine and works to perfection ....
Could it have switched boot HDD by itself ??
Thanks in advance
Jen

If when you set the boot order you saved (F10) your settings and then it changed you may have a failing CMOS battery.

You are making the SATA drive the first device in the boot order, correct?

Hi DC3
I have changed the boot sequence and it has saved in Bios ..
BUT .. as you mention .. I have NOT changed the actual HDD order .. I was afraid of really messing things up .....
From what I can see ... disk 0 is the MAXTOR HD .. which is data only.
Disk 1 is the SATA 1 C: system and D: data partitions
Does the Picasa link work with my pics ....??
I don't know how to paste them here.
Otherwise could I mail them to you ??
Sorry for the anx .. but I would really like to solve this without formatting or other ..
Thanks for your help

Jen

You won't mess things up, go ahead and make the SATA drive the first device in the boot order.
