Hey everyone, I recently installed a dvd burner onto my computer, and I'm running with windows xp. It took the place of the F: drive which was where my external usb hard drive had already been. So I changed the drive letter of the dvd burner to R: so the external drive would be detected when I restarted. Sure enough my dvd burner was R:, and my external was F:. But sometimes when I turn on my computer on the external drive doesn't appear at all and when I unplug and replug it I get the message "USB Device Not Recognized", and it goes on to tell me that it has malfunctioned. I have also noticed that when I plug my ipod in I believe it also replaces the external hard drive. My question is how can I get my external hard drive to be read all the time, and not just "when it feels like working". I have about 10 gigabytes of my stuff on it, so it would help if I didn't have to erase everything on it.
Thanks for you help
