Computer Freezing

Hey all,
I built myself a computer, that was working excellent, until i switched graphic cards. Now it is having problems, even after re-installing windows.
I can't find any problems in the event viewer that relate to it freezing, other than the fact that my computer unexpectedly shut down.

Here are my specs

Intel Core i7-3820
Kingston SV200S3128G SSD
Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 Motherboard
(Old GPU) Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX650
(New GPUs) AMD Radeon HD 7770 x2 crossfire
OCZ 700W ModXStream-P PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium x86_64
4GB x2 RAM, DDR3

If i am leaving anything out, let me know.

I am looking for steps on how to find the problem.

Have you tried switching back to the old card? A defective card is possible.

I don't have the old graphics card anymore. I returned it when i bought the new ones, because i was looking for sli/xfire, and the card i bought appairently didnt have sli. instead of moving up to 200+ for another card, then spending another 200+ on the second, i went to ati. :(

If you are still having issues, let's gather a little more information.

(1.) To help us get a better look at your computer's hardware, please download and install Speccy by Piriform. (mirror site)
  • Run Speccy and from the top menu, select File --> Publish Snapshot. Click "Yes" to proceed.
  • Click, Copy to Clipboard and paste this address into your next post.

(2.) Please download MiniToolBox by farbar, save it to your Desktop, and run it.

Check the following checkboxes:
  • List content of Hosts
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
    • Only Problems
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
  • List Restore Points
Then click Go.
  • Copy the result (Result.txt) by clicking Edit from top menu -> Select all, then Edit -> Copy.
  • Please Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post.

Hello Jeevis,

A number of problems were found. This is a relatively new installation of Windows (Installation Date : 12/23/2012 8:05:49 AM).

(1.) No hosts file and no antivirus or antispyware software installed. Recent infection?
  • Please download and install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).
  • Next, download and install the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware to use as an on-demand scanner.
    • Do NOT start (please uncheck) the trial version of Malwarebytes after installation.
  • Run a Full Scan with each (one at a time) and let us know if any malware was found.
(2.) Run the Microsoft Fixit to replace the hosts file.


(3.) You don't have all of your motherboard drivers installed.
  • Please go to the Gigabute's GA- X79-UD3 driver download site.
    • Arrow down and click, CPU/Memory Support & Downloads.
    • Download type: Drivers
    • Choose your OS: Windows 7 64bit.
  • Download and install in this order:
    • Chipset - both
    • SATA RAID/AHCI - Only the Marvell SATA Controller Driver
    • Lan
    • USB 3.0
    • Audio
(4.) Speccy reports that you have an SSD drive: KINGSTON SV200S3128G ATA Device.
  • You should check to see whether there is a firmware update for your drive.
    • I believe there is a May/2012 update that dealt with drive read - slow downs.
  • If there is an update, please read carefully regarding how to perform the update and accept the risks.

(5.) Please read: How to install AMD Catalyst™ Software on a Windows® 7 System .
  • Use the AMD Driver Autodetect Utility to find the most recent driver for your graphics card.
  • If autodetect fails, try here.
(6.) You are missing January 2013 Windows Updates.

So far, i have downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials, and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. I ran the scan on MSE, and the only things it has found are keygens on a secondary hard drive, that i will let it clean out for the sake of seeing if it stops the problem. (Secondary hard drive being D:\\, where windows is installed on C:\\) I am about to run Malwarebytes, and i have also checked out the host file, and it seems that i already have one, that has the same information in it as the link you have sent me. So i'm not sure what is up with that. After i run the second scan, i will do all the drivers, then get the 2013 JAN update. I will report back.

Ok, so i ran malwarebytes, with a result of 0 infections. Then i downloaded and attempted the installation of the motherboard drivers, and i say attempted because i already had some, such as audio, LAN and USB3.0. I could not find the drivers for my SSD, since the website only offers SV300, and SVP200(SV 200+ series) I ran the graphics card auto-detect, and it says my drivers are up to date, and i already have the catalyst installed. The last was windows update, which i ran. I turned Xfire back on, and i am going to see how it runs now. I had everything installed beforehand(drivers and such), but i was having this problem, so i re-installed windows in hope to fix it. I will post if it freezes/crashes again.

Regarding KINGSTON SV200S3128G firmware:

Please go to Kingston Support.

  • Select Solid-State Drives.
  • Arrow down to SSD Now | Discontinued Products and click V200 SV200S3.
  • Under Downloads and Drivers, click Firmware Update 64G and 128G Drives Only.
  • Please confirm that this is your SSD drive.
  • Please read all documents carefully and inspect your SSD drive for outdated firmware number.
    • "We have discovered a technical issue with our SSDNow SV200S3 drives related to intermittent sequential write slowdowns. This firmware update will restore your SSD's sequential write speed and improve the random read and write performance."
  • If an update is available, heed all warnings about possible data loss, then decide whether you wish to update.

Please run MiniToolBox, once again, per post #4 and post the results.

Please check your SSDNow for the following number: “E111008a” (see illustration for location).
If you have “E111008a” on your SSDNow and want to improve your drive performance, you should apply this firmware update.
If you DO NOT have “E111008a” on your SSDNow as shown in the illustration, then your drive is up-to-date and you DO NOT need this firmware.


I have version E120506a, so i shouldnt update.

There appears to be an incompatible version of the driver dump_wmimmc.sys for gPotato\Rappelz\GameGuard\.

NPPTNT2 service is part of nProtect Game Guard from what I can find. I am not a Gamer. You will have to decide what the importance of this service is to you. Have a look here.

Nprotect gameguard is an anti-hack tool that is bundled with a lot of online games(mostly RPGs), and is required to play those games(in my case, rappelz.) I did find a possible fix, so when i get home, i will try that fix, then i will run another toolbox and see if the error occurs again.

So i checked out the file "dump_wmimmc.sys", and it is a driver for error reporting, and has no functionality on whether gameguard or the game runs, nor does it appairently have an impact on my computer. It is a known problem, and people ignore it without a problem. Any other suggestions?
