Upon first opening Explorer in Windows 7, everything works fine. If I switch to another folder, I lose previews. In some folders, I have no icons at all. It doesn't seem to matter what the content is: .docx, .jpg, .avi. All icons are lost. The dreaded green bar starts crawling across the top. I have a spinning magnifying glass in the left pane. In "my computer" I can't navigate to any drives. It's beyond frustrating.

I use a custom desktop theme and everything worked up to now; switched to Aero theme and have the same issues.
I've run Malwarebytes. No problems discovered.
I rebuilt the icon cache. Same problem as above.
I did a system restore to a point before this started. Same problem.
I started in safe mode. Everything works fine.
I created a new profile. Everything works fine.
I'm thinking my profile is corrupted, but from what I've read, it's a long and complicated task to move my stuff to a new profile. Could there be something else wrong? If not, is there a simpler way to clean up this mess?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

In Device Manager do you see any items with red or yellow marks?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
