Hi
Have followed your instruction guide of things to do before posting. Trend Micro and Panda had problems with errors. Bitdefender did find the virus. and Mcaffe did pick up something in Temp internet files. Although I thought I had cleared them earlier.

This is the Hijacj log

Hello Onlythebrave and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. After reviewing your log I see that you are running msconfig in /auto mode which means that you may have selectively removed some items in the past from the startup procedure. This can hide malware from us when we are performing a fix, so we would like you to reenable those startup entries by doing the following:

Please click on Start, then Run, and type msconfig and then press Enter. When the window opens you should be on the General tab. Click on the Normal Startup item. Then press ok until you are out of the program. It will ask you to reboot so reboot normally.

Now please create a new Hijackthis Log and post it here as a reply. I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi OldTimer.

Since my last HJT log file I have completely wiped my C drive (where I keep all programes), I wanted to do some online transactions, so I thought the only way to be sure was to wipe and start again. However I have a D drive that mirros the C drive plus all my documents etc, which I don't know if that is clear of problems, so advice on this would be helpful, as I do not know how to run Hjt on D.

However I have downloaded Hjt on my C drive again and this is what it shows -

Hi Onlythebrave. Everything looks fine in the log. You cannot run HijackThis against a backup drive. If you think something is present there you canscan it with your anti-virus and/or anti-spyware programs.

Cheers.

Sorry to trouble you again, but how do I get my anti virus to check my D Drive.
Bit defender was the only anti virus on your pre run exercises of HJT, that identified Trojan Haxdoor. And my anti virus only seems to check my C Drive.

Hi Onlythebrave. In AVG you simply click on the Scan Selected Areas from the main page and then select the drives and/or folders you want it to scan.

Cheers.

Just something else about viruses.
When I run AVG the following shows up

C:\Windows\Restore.ins:C:\OEMCUST\TOOLS\Win32\PSKILL.EXE

C:\Windows\Restore.Ins

C:\Windows\System\Restore.Ins:\C:\OEMCUST\TOOLS\Win32\PSKILL.EXE

C:\Windows\System\Restore.Ins

I have contacted AVG to see if they know what to do, and they told me to turn off System Restore, restart my computer. I have done this and then ran AVG again, but they are still there.
In my original email to AVG I asked if this was an actual virus, or AVG being overproctective, but they just said ignored that question. I ask this because it it is a virus wouldn't you see it on a HJT scan?

Hi Onlythebrave. PSKill is a tool used to kill running processes. It can be used by viruses and so many anti-virus programs pick it up. In this instance it is simply a part of the OEM tools that were included with the computer. It isn't really a threat here.

Cheers.
